The Wind-up Bird Chronicle

My simple tribute to the surreal novel by Haruki Murakami, 'The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle'. I'm halfway through the book- and while it's a bit slow and long, but very enjoyable.

Not to give too much away, the story is set in urban Japan and tells of a man named Okada whose wife has become distant from him, and the disappearance of their cat. Okada must embark on a strange journey through urban Japan in search of the cat, while meeting many strange people with different back stories

The titlular wind up bird is symbolic of how the way the world goes round as Murakami puts in one of his verses. and the well represents his method of escaping reality- depicted in the novel as a dark, desolate but sometimes starry place- and in one chapter with a half moon. (although, on a negative trait, it can also be the symbol of being trapped and isolated as indicated by one of the stories of one of the characters)
